The Isle of Purbeck

The Isle is almost completely surrounded by water, the Rivers Frome and Piddle to the north, Poole Harbour and Poole Bay to the east and the English Channel to the south.

The Purbeck coast is designated as Heritage Coast and has many interesting features, including the famous Fossil Forest and "Broken Beds" found to the East of Lulworth Cove.

Broken Beds

Fossil Forest

The "Broken Beds", found to the East of Lulworth Cove. Best seen after descending the steps to.....
...the famous Fossil Forest. The round bole in the centre of the picture is the remains of algal mud which once collected around the base of the trees.
